1. A NUMBER of the job applicants ARE in the auditorium already.
THE NUMBER of the job applicants IS being reviewed at the moment.
Use a number with a plural verb, and the number with a singular verb, as shown above.
2. It is common to hear outrightly, which the Oxford dictionary does not recognize. You probably will find it in some online dictionaries; it is nonetheless unacceptable.
That's an outright denial!
He denied outright.
He denied outrightly*. (wrong)
3. Shepherd is the only word in English with a PH that is not pronounced / f /. In other words, while it is correct to say phone (FONE), graph (GRAF), nephew (NEFEW), it is wrong to say SHEFAD. Shepherd is pronounced SHEPAD.
4. Don't remove 's' from headquarters even if you use the word as an adjective. For example:
headquarters assembly
Two, it only agrees with a singular verb.
The headquarters of my church is located on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
Three, don't separate the word headquarters thus: head quarters
5. Discuss, not discuss about
I met them discussing how to achieve their dreams.
