One thing Nigerians, perhaps people in general, care less about when they buy a new gadget is the accompanying instruction manual. A manual spells out how to fix and operate a newly purchased item, arrange it and how it functions. It comes with phones, TVs, wristwatches, etc., but patrons treat it with neglect. One quick way to detect what is produced somewhere in Nigeria or with cronies outside Nigeria is the lack of an instruction manual. When there is one, it is often scantly written and/or written in incorrect English. There is little or no regard for instructions in this part of the world. It's a default training to be defaulters! One can then imagine these defaulters behind the wheels. These defaulters may not know or ignore entirely the instructions spelt out on tyres regarding carriage. That's the unfortunate implication of the default training.
The people that will mostly likely ignore a manual are the experts. The so-called experts know better than the instruction manual. It is with them a manual suffers disregard. Those who have suffered the most in this regard are car owners. There are ugly tales of car owners who spent a lot of money on their vehicles, on the advice of road side mechanics, only to find out later that more damage has been done to their cars. Those who fix our ACs, power generators and refrigerators are also culpable.
Some manuals are carefully written in two or more languages, and we wonder why the trouble. A manual even spells out the most obvious details, and we wonder at the need for it. The reason is simple: manufacturers want nothing to be assumed! More often than not, the instructions in the manual are accompanied with illustrations, for simplicity and clarity. Of what essence! It is a useless piece of paper that is dumped in the trash can. It is thrown away with the carton.
But how vital is instruction? The one whose wisdom still remains timeless, universal and a global reference said to value, cherish and respect instruction because it is life. Instructions are as valuable as our money, if not more. When you meet someone who has been taught to value and obey instructions, that is someone who has been well taught and will almost always succeed.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
