However, I invented a different approach to teaching it, and got one of my students who had always feared this aspect of English to eventually put in for English at the university. Today, she is a graduate of English. You too can master each of the sounds; there is absolutely no reason to entertain fear.



By way of introduction, let's take one or two of the English vowels.

Vowel / e /
It is pronounced in the following words:

bed, get, merry, many, bury, bread, head, death, etc.

But note carefully that / e / is also pronounced in the following words:

Leopard;
Jeopardy; and
Leisure

Vowel / e / is NOT PRONOUNCED in the following words:

Legal, veto, vehicle, penal.

Rather, letter e in these words are pronounced / i: /. You can check up the correct pronunciations of the words in the dictionary.

So if / e / is tested if it is pronounced in the following words below, what will be your answer?

/ e /
A. veto
B. bread
C. vehicle
D. legal

It is also NOT PRONOUNCED in words beginning in EU such as Europe, European, enunch, euphemism, etc.

So if / e / is tested if it is pronounced in the following words below, what will be your answer?

/ e /
A. Europe
B. euphemism
C. see
D. check

Observe the following words:
case;
base;
please;
leave;
give;
gate;
lame;
rate;
take;
age, etc.

When letter e ends a word, it is NOT PRONOUNCED as / e /. You can give your own examples of such words.

So if / e / is tested if it is pronounced in the following words below, what will be your answer?
 / e /
A. race
B. fresh
C. people
D. create
